Wow, it's been a while since I have passed my ponderences on to you. So overwhelmed with life in general, let alone dealing with these little thoughts that tend to sail around my head, seeking a port to dock near...
I've been constantly thinking about a friend of mine that has to fight in this stupid impending war. In high school, we talked about going to college and such, but due to various reasons, he was not able to benefit from opportunities that would have allowed him to achieve his goals. While in high school, he worked two jobs to try to help out his mother, his sister, and his niece. Amazing. So much pressure for a teen. Anyway, since he was so focused on work, he didn't particpate in a lot of the college prep opportunities (i.e. campus visits, scholarships, etc.). In any event, the only way that he figured he could receive an education was by joining the armed forces. I couldn't believe it when he told me that he was joining the Air Force, and was moving to Wyoming. This was about 6 years ago. I recently saw my friend at the beginning of the year, and he seemed totally different. Sure you can chalk it up to age and experiences, as well as time, but it just felt awkward. He told me that he had already went to Iraq and that they would possibly send him back again. All he wanted was an education, and now he has to sacrafice his life for it. Just doesn't add up.
Flipping the script...but still on education... sadly, I did not get into UC Berkeley's School of Public Health :( Oh well, on to plan B (just as soon as I figure it out...). In all seriousness, I still have to apply to SF State, but if that doesn't pan out as well, then I'll re-apply in the fall. Oh well, you win some and you lose some I suppose.
