As I drive to and from work, day in and day out, I have come to learn that the 80 has a culture all of its own. It's amazing to note the personalities of each driver you wiz by each day. Although it's not the exact same person, the fact that they exhibit the similar characteristics is interesting to me. Here are a few of my favorites:
-- The "I know you have your signal on and are trying to merge, but I'll keep looking straight ahead and deny your existence" man or woman: this person is so insistent on being first, and getting to where they have to be at all cost, that they refuse to show any courtesy to other drivers. Grrrrrrr! I dunno, maybe the idea of having the power to control the flow of a lane causes their head to swell beyond belief.
-- How about the "I'm in my SUV/Ford F-series, so I'll just bully my way through traffic" lady or gentleman: This always reminds me of the situation with the big bully at school that throws their weight around to get their way. I love how they look over you, and just keep on wheeling until they get to where they have to go. I guess my little Honda and me will have to go get our big brother to watch our backs...lol.
-- The "If I continue to weave in and out of traffic enough, perhaps I'll create enough energy to teleport myself to my desired destination" dude or dudette: I saw a driver this morning that was way beyond reckless. Man, they could have caused about three or four accidents tops.
Aside from noting these different personalities, if I'm jammin' to my favorite CDs, I gotta read those bumper stickers on the cars in front of me. This morning I was behind a guy that was so patriotic that I couldn't flush the image of red, white, and blue from my eyes for at least an hour or too. He had the "Siemper Fi" label posted on one window, an American flag on the other, and on the bumper, one that said, "Support -- Buy -- Be -- American." Hmmm, as I read this, two thoughts popped into my head. The first being, does anyone truly do that? In terms of the amount of consuming we do day in and day out, how often to the questions if this product is really American. I imagine a closet full of cotton and a fridge filled with steaks for some reason. My second thought is, does this guy think that anyone that supports any "Un-American" cause is a traitor? I mean, I guess I would probably be a prime target if we went by the car alone. I like to think that it's multi-ethnic in away -- designed in Japan, and created in Mexico and Canada -- makes for an interesting mix -- as you can tell, the amount of time I sit in traffic provides me the fine opportunity to generate these thoughts, but I digress. Yep, the next time you're on the 80, take heed to the personalities next to you -- the time you spend overanalyzing will pass the time away... lol.
