In the tummy of the grumbling bear...
That song used to always crack me up. I remember strolling by Sather gate, and the " Cal Overtones" used to belt that out, all animated and whatnot. I wonder if they still do that?
Here is a collective of random UCB memories and items of random thought:
Kat's first image of UCB: A homeless man bathing in the Sproul Fountain. That dude was scrubbing and washing like he was in a frickin Irish Spring commercial. Ahhh, memories that last you a lifetime. I remember one time a friend didn't give this guy any spare change, so he took off his shoe and hurled it at her. That was awesome.
Upper Sproul attraction #1: Nick Starr... the Sinatra singer and sexual harasser. Dude use to sing old tunes and insert pervo comments about chick's boobs and whatnot. UCB's very own R. Kelly.
Upper Sproul attraction#2: Bible man vs. Political Clown guy vs. Yoshua man. This was tiiite! A three way verbal fight that almost turned into a fist fight, that I missed cuz I had to go to class! Dammit. A fight between a Christian, an atheist, and a Jewish man. Only at Cal I tell you, only at Cal.
Most F%cked up building: Dwinhell Hall... err, Dwinelle Hall. Place is like frickin Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Doors that lead to know where, skipped room numbers, argggg. Someone must have dropped acid when they made that place.
Cal legend: "I agree with Paul." The orange t-shirts. The groups sitting on Upper Sproul waiting for him to arrive. Messages from Paul in the Daily Cal. For a semester, he had Cal on lock. Who knew he would wind up being a 20 something Haas student leading the flock. Hrmmmm.
Most fun time of the year: Tutoring during Summer Session. This was the best! Get to work with some good friends and talk to some really brilliant people, while doing something that I loved. It used to be hella funny gripin with my twin Cin-yee about students that were asking for "7 much"... (i.e. Show me how to write my thesis statement. Show me how to make the transitions better, yadda yadda yadda). Basically, they were trying to con us into writing the papers for them. Cin-yee's silent response: "How 'bout I show you the back of my hand, biotch?!?!" Nice one girl.
Most calming place to walk: Strawberry Creek. Especially after the rain, when all the water is flowing really heavy, and the air smells all clean. I'd just stand on the bridge between Dwinelle and the SLC, and close my eyes and just listening to the water rush by. You have no idea how calming that was, especially after an O Chem midterm.
Best view: Campanile. I remember I took my 7 year old cousin up there at noon. That was hella funny! I know, I'm mean... heehee.
Best chill spot: The SLC (Student Learning Center) Bomb ass counselors. Hella tables to just kick it. I miss that place.
Nicest time of the year: Fall. To see all the leaves turn. Feel the cold air brush against your face as you move along to class. And the sun peeking from behind the cloudy skies. Such a nice mental picture I will keep always.
Best study spot: BSP (Biology Scholars Program) resource room. Dry erase board filled with nomenclature. Soft couch that you had to get in there early to get dibs on. Nice.
Cal critters: SQUIRRELS!!! There are hell of these bad boys everywhere. Running all over the place. Fighting, eating, and once I saw a pair straight humpin (I was in a boring lecture, so any entertainment was good).
Cal sounds: Cal band practicing at Goldman field at 5pm. My cuzzo Melanie was in the band for four years, playing the clarinet. In practice last week, she was doing the Cal high-step. Too bad I never had the chance to see her play.
I'll think of more good, bad, and interesting items later. Holler at me if you have any additions.
