A quick thought part deux…
The post earlier was the quick and dirty about the change of events lately. A gym that I worked at has been bought by another corporation and they are making a variety of drastic changes – basically eliminating all the instructors, personal trainers, and sales staff because it doesn’t fit into their new system. For me, I was there because I love dancing and teaching, and it did help to supplement things here and there. But I feel so bad for the folks that relied on that place for their main employment, and for all the folks that will be displaced because of all the changes. One of the now former gym members said it best – “business doesn’t care about people any more.” Big business sucks man. In any industry that you see, mega-corporations are so cold, impersonal, and distant from the folks that they serve. We constantly say, well that’s business, so deal with it… but when are we gonna stop following that trail of bullshit? On the Sopranos, some of the boys were trying to muscle a Starbucks knock-off for protection money – but the clerk said he couldn’t ok anything like that because it had to go through corporate. Man, even mobsters don’t get any kind of respect. I’m making light of all this, but in all seriousness, if folks treated their customers like they want to be treated, perhaps we could shift from a self-centered and money hungry society into one that *gasp* actually cares about people.
