Wired…

I like Wednesdays… these are long ass days, but I like ‘em. Here is a peek into what this day is like:

9pm-5pm: Desk duty at the health department. Sometimes I get to venture out into the “field”, which is basically the Cal campus. Who would pass up the opportunity to catch up with old friends and roam around the stomping grounds? Oh, and get some policy and student advocacy work done in the meantime. Sometimes the cubical gets a little lonely, and sometimes I have to work really hard to have my ideas heard, but things wouldn’t be interesting if they didn’t have a challenge, right?

5pm – 6 or 6:30pm: Depending on pesky Bay traffic, some times it’s a breeze and other times it’s a mess. I know if I’m done in if cars are backed up to the metering lights. Thank goodness for 5 o’clock mixes, CDs, and NPR (yeap, I said it). Funny choices in listening options huh?

6 or 6:30pm: Jogging down from a street that has free parking to the SFSU campus. Our program has a resource room for our program, so I can either catch up on some reading, practice some dance steps, or kick it with my fellow MPHers… all ways to distress and clear my head.

7 – 9:30pm: The dopest class ever! We’re taking a class on training and the educational process. I swear, regardless of how drained I feel during the day, this class energizes me. It just might be the nerd in me, but I love it! I cannot put into words all the amazing stuff that we talk about and explore -- unless you reeeealy want me too =) – but it’s about a topic that I love (teaching!), as well as analyzing how we learn. Like I said, amazing stuff. I could talk to the teacher for hours too, cuz she’s really cool and down to earth. I love her energy, and I swear she channels it to everybody in the class… which leads me too…

9:30pm – until whenever: I swear I become a ball of energy that cannot stop! I get so juiced from class until I have nowhere to put it. Last night I went to a dance practice and didn’t get home until 1am, read most of a chapter for homework, sent out a load of e-mails, reviewed some paperwork, feed my dogs… all leading to me crashing at around 4am… good stuff huh?
Today, I’m not sure if I am “technically” awake, but I’m trying. Pretty soon I’m gonna make a run to get some liquid crack (i.e. coffee – which may be as unhealthy as the lack of sleep)… but ya gotta love those opportunities to get natural highs. =)

Downside/Upsides for the past week:

Downside: Been experiencing an ass load of racism, and just all around unjustices here and there.
Upside: Having family, friends, and faculty to understand how I'm reacting to it, and offering support anyway that they can. Y'all are bomb!

Downside: Sat on Sproul for 4hrs. tabling with the student group, and my legs nearly froze solid.

Upside: Fun kickin' it with the interns, and I saw some of my homies and former students... ahh, the memories.

Downside: Spent 6 hrs. practicing the dance routine with the FloMotion crew... now everything hurts.
Upside: Kickin' it with some awesome dancers and friends... and watching "Kenny Rogers" and my sister beat up "Mad Skillz Monkey"... that was priceless.

Downside: Some big tournament was at Cal on Sunday, and I had to park all the way on Oxford, and then run to the "Risif" i.e. RSF to substitute teach the Cardio Funk class... dammit!
Upside: Had like 40 people in the class and they dug the music and routine... had hella energy, which made me and them feel good!
Upside: Saw my homie Garret, another hip-hop instructor there. Haven't seen that dude in a hella long time!
Downside: Had to walk back to my car on Oxford, in the dark, in the rain. Unluckily I found a crap umbrella in my gym bag. Was better off without it... boo I say, boo!

Downside: Didn't get a chance to catch my homegirl Jada perform today, cuz of the rain, and plus I felt like crap pretty much all day.
Upside: I'm hella happy for all that she is doing with her dance. Much props kid!

Downside: Alcohol is too damn expensive!!! A measly bottle of Hennessey was $30! What the feezy!!! I'm the brokest wannabe alcoholic. The funny thing, I prolly won't even drink all this stuff I'm buyin'.
Upside: Watching friends have a good time at the upcoming party. I'll be sure to have a video camera to collect drunkin' shenanigans, err, memories to watch over and over again... hehehe ;P

Downside: Last week was hell and a half work wise and life wise.
Upside: Got through it! Yay!
Downside: More hell may be on the way... yikes!

Downside: Have an ass load of reading to do, and I am procrastinating like hell!

Upside: It'll get done soon, but I was nice to refelct on stuff for a bit.

Yeap yeap, just a peek into this life of mine. Friday is the partay, and Saturday is the big performance. Looking forward to both =) Hope you all had a good weekend, and good week to come!
